Unifor Canadian North Collective Agreement

Ottawa, Ontario, September 28, 2013 – The Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Women`s Status, congratulated Canadian North and Unifor Local in 2002 (formerly the General Union of Workers of Canada (CAW-Canada) on a membership-ratified convention. Canadian airline North offers scheduled flights and freight services to Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. The collective agreement for 146 ticket agents and carrier expired on December 31, 2012. «I am pleased that Canadian North and Unifor, Local 2002, have worked together to reach an agreement,» said Minister Leitch. «Both parties continued to focus on the negotiation process, which was beneficial in avoiding work stoppages and provided uninterrupted services in northern Canada.» The federal work program mediation and conciliation service provides unions and employers with assistance in resolving disputes and preventing them after the Canadian Labour Code.
