Wpea Collective Bargaining Agreement

People have many reasons not to want to support the union. Some simply do not believe that the services provided by the union are worth the contributions it receives. Others may find that the union`s unified program does not serve them well because they are new to the profession, have a specialty that is not recognized in bargaining, or because they believe its effectiveness is under-compensated. Some are annoyed by the union`s role in empowering and defending underperforming workers. Many find the union`s political activity and the use of contributions to promote party political concerns, candidates and ideology unpleasant. Others have a faith-based objection to unions spending on causes such as defending abortion and attacking values. Moreover, the union`s core philosophy of conflict, violation of the oath, disrespect and greed can also contradict many religious beliefs. Still others believe that union officials are corrupt and un accountable to their members. No. All provisions of the collective agreement between the union and your employer will continue to apply to your employment. Your salaries, health benefits, retirement and everything governed by the collective agreement will remain unchanged if you withdraw from the WPEA. Some unions have persuaded workers to sign membership forms in small print renouncing their right to resign, except for a short annual period. If the union claims that you have signed such a form and therefore cannot cancel the deductions from your salary, ask that you have signed such an agreement.

While the terms of the collective agreement continue to govern your employment, the union, as a non-member, may prevent you from participating in the internal affairs of the union, at para. B to attend trade union meetings or participate in trade union elections, including voting on the ratification of contracts. In addition, unions often refuse special «member-only» agreements or discounts that the union has agreed to with companies. You can no longer receive the union newsletter or similar publications. Therefore, the collective agreement negotiated by the union and your employer will continue to set out the terms and conditions of your employment, and the union will continue to represent you in complaints, contract performance, disciplinary assistance or other procedures governed by the collective agreement. As a result, public sector employees may refuse to pay these private organizations without losing their jobs or employer-provided benefits. Other types of leave include community service leave (jury), child care emergencies, parental leave, military leave, bereavement leave and leave without pay (LWOP). WPEA`s Form 990 2017 shows that it collected $2.8 million in contributions and fees from public sector employees. Union president Kent Stanford received $98,490. The union contributed $10,950 to its political action committee for contributions to candidates and other political funds.

Unions representing civil servants are not subject to the usual consumer protection laws or antitrust laws, so abuses are common. .
